- Biographical / historical:
-
Prior to 1970, there was a Faculty Senate on campus that dealt with issues related to faculty at Old Dominion. In 1970, President James L Bugg, Jr. created a University Senate to include faculty, staff, and students. By 1978, the faculty thought students had too much of a say in the University Senate and reverted back to a faculty-only senate. Today, the Faculty Senate still strives to represent faculty in university matters such as curriculum, admissions and registration, academic freedom and tenure, and other issues.
