Letter from George Washington to Theodorick Bland, written from headquarters at Newburgh, NY. Writing several weeks after the events of the Newburgh Conspiracy and Washington's Newburgh Address, he discusses the disbanding of the Continental Army and the need to resolve Army pay and pensions. Washington speaks candidly about the urgency of the situation: "the necessity of fulfilling this Expectation of the Army affects me so exceeding forcibly, that I cannot help dwelling upon it, nor is there in my present apprehension a point of greater Consequence, or that requires more serious attention".
