The large oval portrait is framed within its original wooden frame with wood backing. The photo is mounted on a charcoal color board. There is a modern label on the back that says, 'Hortense Alexander, Homecoming Queen, Washington and Lee University, 1893.' The frame has a label for Smith and Allen Furniture, Ennis, Texas. There are four contemporary copies stored within the general prints and photographs collection. The original is stored in the hanging storage area of the Special Collections vault. Hortense Alexander was most likely from Texas.
