Scope and content:

This collection contains items related to Charles Y. Barr's military service during World War II. It includes his honorable discharge paperwork, a service album which includes USMC photographs of Saipan, numerous photographs related to the South Pacific Theater. The is a small number of artifacts including Barr's Bronze Star medal.

Biographical / historical:

Charles Y. Barr was born on July 8, 1923 in Westchester County, New York to James and Eva Yerger Barr. He attended R. I. T. in Rochester. Barr joined the United States Marine Corp in 1942 and served during World War II at Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands as well as Marianas, Saipan, and Tinian. He received the Bronze Star medal for action in Iwo Jima. He died on June 8, 2002.
