Scope and content:

This collection contains two diplomas received by Alexander M. Glasgow. One is his Bachelor of Liberal Arts diploma dated June 30, 1842 from Washington College and the other is from the Washington Literary Society, one of the literary societies established at Washington College, dated June 11, 1842.

Biographical / historical:

Alexander McNutt Glasgow was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia on October 24, 1820 and graduated from Washington and Lee University, then Washington College, in 1842. He died in Rockbridge County on August 4, 1894.
