Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains five certificates given to William Spiller by the faculty at Washington College, now Washington and Lee University, for completing with distinction different courses of study: Latin, English, French, German, and French/German/English. One certificate was received on June 23, 1870 and the others on June 22, 1871.

Biographical / historical:

William Spiller graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1873.
