Scope and content:

This collection consists of 34 received by Benjamin Huger, Jr. (VMI Class of 1934) primarily from female friends attending other schools. The bulk were received while he was a cadet. Represented schools include Duke University (Womens College) and St. Annes secondary school in Charlottesville, Virginia. Topics are largely personal and social, with references to events and life at the various schools, popular culture, and current events.

Biographical / historical:

Benjamin Huger, Jr. was born on July 10, 1913 and graduated from VMI Class in 1934. He was a descendant of VMI's second Superintendent, Scott Shipp. He was the owner of a family wholesale business in Lexington, Virginia and a World War II veteran. Huger died on September 19, 1988.
