Rorer Anderson James was born in 1859 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1882. He was a lawyer, state legislator, newspaper owner, and businessman in Danville, Virginia. He also was a member of the VMI Board of Visitors. James died in 1921 in Danville.
