Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of one letter from Cadet John R. Triplett to his cousin (dated October 11, 1863). The letter discusses difficulty of having new shoes made because of the scarcity of leather.

Biographical / historical:

John Richards Triplett was born in 1845 in Richmond, Virginia. He was a member of the VMI Class of 1866 and a New Market cadet. He resigned his VMI cadetship on February 1, 1865 to enter the Confederate Army. After the Civil War he worked in the iron industry. Triplett died in 1882.
