This collection consists of the professional and personal papers of David L. Ruffner, including:
- Two scrapbooks dating from his United States Army career. The first scrapbook (1943-1946) includes information about the 10th Mountain Division in Italy. The second scrapbook (1948-1950) covers his assignment at Nuremberg Military Post, Germany.

David Lewis Ruffner was born in 1896 in Charleston, West Virginia. He graduated from VMI in 1917. From 1917 to 1953 he was an United States Army officer, and retired with the rank of Major General. Ruffner died in 1973 in Metarie, Louisiana.
