This collection consists of one letter (dated November 8, 1886) to John A. McDonald from his sister, Annie. The letter contains primarily family news, but it is difficult to read because of extensive water damage. The letter was found in VMI barracks during construction work in 1936.
- Biographical / historical:

John Alexander McDonald was born in 1868 in Durant, Mississippi. He graduated VMI in 1889 and went on to become a physician. He died in 1930 in Lexington, Mississippi.
