Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of one letter (dated September 25, 1890) from William S. Weddell to his mother. The letter describes the day on which his classmate Warner T. Taliaferro died following a fight with a fellow cadet, Frank W. McConnico.

Biographical / historical:

William Sparrow Weddell was born in 1874 in Harrrisonburg, Virginia. He graduated VMI in 1894 and went on to become a salesman. He died in 1944 in Richmond, Virginia.
