Scope and content:

The Mason G. Ellzey papers consist of 17 letters of recommendation written on behalf of Ellzey. Seven letters (1867) recommend him for a position at the University of Virginia. Ten letters (1872-1873) recommend him for a position at the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College in Blacksburg (now Virginia Tech).

Biographical / historical:

Mason Graham Ellzey was born in 1838 in Loudoun County, Virginia. He graduated VMI in 1860. During the Civil War he was a Major and surgeon with the Confederate States of America. After the War he was a physician. Ellzey died in 1915 in Richmond, Viginia.
