This collection consists of one manuscript of the VMI valedictory address of Cadet Samuel H. Letcher. The speech was delivered at VMI finals in July 1869. The manuscript contains annotations by John T. L. Preston.

Samuel Houston Letcher was born in 1848 in Lexington, Virginia. He graduated VMI in 1869 and was a New Market cadet. He also was a lawyer and judge. Letcher died in 1914 in Lexington.
