Located in Leesburg's historic district, the house at 19 Cornwall St NW was built in approximately 1858. The frame-style house sits on a plot of .09 acres on the southwest corner of Wirt and Cornwall Streets, facing St. James Episcopal Church to the north. According to the 1757 Hough survey of Leesburg, the lot was originally owned by Robert Hamilton (n.d.). William Forsythe (1824-1921) purchased the property in 1852. The 1853 Yardley Taylor map shows a building on the lot of similar size to the current main building, although slightly south of the corner. In 1877, Samuel McGill (1842-1905) purchased the lot from Forsythe. The 1878 Gray's Map shows the current building's larger section, which the 1886 Sanborn map indicates was 2 stories, directly on the corner; by 1886, the smaller structure had been added to the southeast corner.
