Collection is open for research; access requires at least 48 hours advance notice. Because of the nature of certain archival formats, including digital and audio-visual materials, access will require additional advanced notice. Copies of digital files will be provided for use upon request.

Scope and content:

The Chemistry Department Purchase Ledger (1946-1962) contains one purchase ledger from the chemistry department documenting the purchases and expenses of the department during the academic years from 1946-1962.

Biographical / historical:

The chemistry department has a long history at Hampden-Sydney. Based on the dates within the ledger, the department would have been located within Bagby Hal. Ledger was no longer used after 1962 and the department moved to Gilmer Hall a couple years later.
