The collection comprises one poll book for the May 26, 1870 election in New Market, Virginia. Candidates for eight offices (Supervisor, Township Clerk, Assessor, Collector, Commissioner of Roads, Overseer of the Poor, Justice of the Peace, Constables) were on the ballot. The poll book lists the name of each elector as well as the candidates, the office for which each candidate was running, and the number of votes for each candidate. Solomon D. Henkel, John G. Zirkle, and Francis E. Rice served as election judges. George W. Kennedy and George M. Neese were election clerks.
