Background

Scope and content:

Collection comprises posters produced from 1976-2000, with most of the content from the 1990s, that advertise the game schedules and team rosters for various Madison College/JMU Athletics team sports for an academic year. The date range of the collection is not comprehensive; each sport contains years that are not represented in the collection. Collection contains two copies of most posters; when there are differences between the two that is noted in the collection inventory. Also included is one poster advertising hours of operation and the URL for the University Recreation Center (UREC). Sports represented include:

  • football
  • men's and women's basketball
  • men's and women's soccer
  • baseball

Acquisition information:
JMU Photographer, Michael Miriello, transferred posters to Special Collections from the JMU Athletics Department in 2012. Additional posters were transferred circa 2014.
Processing information:

The collection was initially processed in 2012 under the collection number SC 5033. The collection was minimally reprocessed in 2022 and renumbered as UA 0020.
