Background

The Freshman Class Scrapbooks are comprised of four disassembled scrapbooks containing correspondence, programs, invitations, telegrams and ephemera that document class elections and campus activities of the Madison College freshman class, from 1945-1949. The scrapbooks contain photocopies of newspaper clippings from The Breeze referring to Big Sister Little Sister events, Class Day, and the Old Girl-New Girl wedding.

The 1945-1946 Freshman Class Scrapbook includes the document, "Activities of the Freshman Class, 1945-1946" which discusses the formation of the Honor Council, the election of class officers, and social committees. The scrapbook includes thank you notes and invitations; decorative place cards created for a banquet; a note with the Freshman Class song or cheer; and a menu of food items for an Athletics Association reception.

The 1946-1947 Freshman Class Scrapbook contains a program for "May Day in Merrie England" event sponsored by the Athletic Association, with performances by orchestra and Glee club; a program for Homecoming events with performances by the orchestra, Glee Club and Madison College Dance Group; a playbill for "Kind Lady," performed by the Stratford Dramatic Club; and correspondence with presidents of the Athletic Association, YWCA and Alumna Association.

The 1947-1948 Freshman Class Scrapbook contains a photograph of Mrs. Garber, Dean of Women; and correspondence with presidents of the Athletic Association, YWCA and Alumna Association.
