Background

Scope and content:

The State Teachers College Class Meeting Records are comprised of three record books containing minutes from class meetings, from 1928-1937. Meeting agenda items included the election of class officers and other elected positions, discussion of the class budget, and planning social events. The record books include quarterly reports, which contain a complete list of students enrolled in each course.

Record books follow a class year by year, with some exceptions. Meeting Minutes 1930-1933, contains class minutes from students' freshman through junior year. Meeting Minutes 1932-1937 contains meeting minutes for the senior class of 1936, and also includes the senior class of 1937.

Biographical / historical:

Students at the State Teachers College at Harrisonburg held regular class meetings in order to elect class representatives to the student government, electoral board, class offices, and leadership positions in athletics, among other positions. Classes collected quarterly dues and managed a small budget. Meetings were held at least once a month, and were often attended by members of the faculty, the Dean of Women and President Samuel P. Duke.
