This collection, which dates from 1942, consists of an invitation to commencement and a diploma issued to Ethelyn Marie Shepard.

Biographical / historical:

Ethelyn Marie Shepard of Guinea Mills, Virginia was born in 1921 to Edward N. and Loreline Shepard. In 1938, Shepard enrolled as a student in the State Teachers College in Farmville, Virginia and earned her bachelor's degree in education in 1942. While a student at State Teachers College, she was a member of YWCA, the Athletic Association, the Commercial Club, and the Granddaughters Club.

Custodial history:

This collection of items, which belonged to Ethelyn Marie Shepard, was later acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with the Longwood University Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when the collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.
