This collection, which dates from 1926 to 1949, consists of student records, ephemera, memorabilia, and photographs.

Biographical / historical:

Katherine Dunn Thompson of Burkeville, Virginia was born in 1907. She attended then State Teachers College in Farmville, Virginia from 1926 to 1929 and later earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Radford University in 1959. While a student at the State Teachers College, Dunn was a member of the Y.W.C.A., the Athletic Association, and the Farmville Chapter of the National Council for Childhood Education. After graduation, Katherine Dunn Thompson taught for 46 years in the Roanoke, Virginia public school system. Thompson passed away in 2009 at the age of 101.

Custodial history:

These materials were originally assembled by Katherine Dunn Thompson during her time as a student at State Teachers College in Farmville. The collection was subsequently acquired by Nancy Shelton during her tenure with Longwood University's Department of Alumni Relations. It is unknown when the collection was transferred to the Greenwood Library Archives.
