The scrapbook in this collection contains newspaper clippings, photographs, memorabilia, and ephemera related to Shirley Jane Lucy's time as a student at Longwood College.

Biographical / historical:

Shirley Jane Lucy was born in 1939 in Lawrenceville, Virginia to Willie Heath and Alice Michael Lucy. In 1959 she graduated from then-Longwood College with a BS in Business Education. While a student at Longwood, Lucy was involved in many student organizations, including serving as Corresponding Secretary for Pi Kappa Sigma and on the House Council. Additionally, she was a member of the Student Education Association, Future Business Leaders of America, Granddaughters Club, the Wesley Foundation, and Cotillion Club. In 1962, Shirley Lucy married Walter Alfred Leyland, Jr., a teacher in Newport News, Virginia.
