- Biographical / historical:

Delta Sigma Chi was founded in 1919 as a local social sorority at the State Normal School for Women in Farmville (now Longwood University), when the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha was dissolved. At the time, sorority leadership made changes to the organization requiring that chapters be installed only at four-year teacher colleges, to help promote growth, but this excluded the then-Normal School. The organization was active until 1933, when Alpha Chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha was reinstated and absorbed members of Delta Sigma Chi.
