This colllection contains three letters regarding the Kansas Constitutional Crisis from Charles Burgess Ball, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates to Charles Tebbs, a Virginia Lieutenant Colonel, in 1857 and 1858. This also contains one letter from Tebbs to Ball which discusses the impending Secession Convention of 1861.

Background

Scope and content:

This colllection contains three letters regarding the Kansas Constitutional Crisis from Charles Burgess Ball, a member of the Virginia House of Delegates to Charles Tebbs, a Virginia Lieutenant Colonel, in 1857 and 1858. This also contains one letter from Tebbs to Ball which discusses the impending Secession Convention of 1861.

Biographical / historical:

Charles Binns Tebbs, Sr. was born 1821 in Loudoun County in Virginia and died 26 September 1867 in Leesburg, Loudoun County, Virginia. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the 8th Virginia Infantry of the Confenderacy. Charles Burgess Ball was born in 1824 and served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 1849-1861 and Virginia Senate from 1862-1865.
