Abstract:
The Virginia Tech Cross stitch is mounted on cardboard with staples, the edges of the fabric sealed with tape. The base of the cross stitch is done in a cream color, with a maroon and orange Virginia Tech seal in the center. Some of the details of the seal are stitched in green, yellow, grey, and cream. Around the seal is text that reads "VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE AND STATE UNIVERSITY." In maroon stitching in the bottom right hand corner is the text "THW '70."

Background

Scope and content:

The Virginia Tech Cross stitch is mounted on cardboard with staples, the edges of the fabric sealed with tape. The base of the cross stitch is done in a cream color, with a maroon and orange Virginia Tech seal in the center. Some of the details of the seal are stitched in green, yellow, grey, and cream. Around the seal is text that reads "VIRGINIA POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE AND STATE UNIVERSITY." In maroon stitching in the bottom right hand corner is the text "THW '70." Stitched on the backside of the work is an orange "W" and possibly an orange "M." The Cross stitch is in good condition.

Biographical / historical:

The Virginia Tech Cross Stitch was donated by Toby W. Hooper who graduated in 1969 from Virginia Tech. The cross stitch was created by his mother as a gift after graduation.

This collection was acquired by the Special Collections and University Archive in July 2021.
Processing information:

The processing, arrangement, and description of the VT Seal Cross Stitch was completed in June 2025.
