Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains a price list of bulk items from Sutler's Stores, c. 1861-1865. Some items include smoked beef, flour, and dried fruits. The list consists of prices from orders made by military units.

Biographical / historical:

Sutler stores were located in many army camps throughout the 19th century, mainly durning the American Civil War, and provided a place for the soldiers to purchase goods from an appointed seller, the sutler.
