The Jessie Willcox Smith Collection (1898-1934) is a collection of illustrations by Willcox used for advertisements, magazine covers, and stories.

Biographical / historical:

Jessie Willcox Smith (1863-1935) was an illustrator for magazines such as "Ladies' Home Journal", "Harper's Weekly", "Good Housekeeping", and more. She studied at places such as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Drexel Institute. Smith never married, and primarily lived with three friends in her adult years, Elizabeth Shippen Green, Violet Oakley, and Henrietta Cozens, the later whom Smith lived with until her death in 1935. She resided in Cincinnati, Ohio, but primarily lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The Jessie Willcox Smith Collection was gifted to Special Collections and University Archives in July 2018. Donation made in honor of Fred S. Hudson, Jr, VPI Class of 1934.
