Background

Scope and content:

This collection consists of materials related to a study on whistleblowing performed by Professor Joyce Rothschild, at Virginia Tech, and Associate Professor Terance D. Miethe, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The study took place in the early 1990s and included employees from institutions all over the United States of America.

A large portion of the collection is surveys used by the researchers to collect data, including both mail-in forms and records of telephone interviews. The collection also contains the statistical results of this data, as well as drafts of Rothschild and Miethe's report "Whistleblowing as Resistance in Modern Work Organizations: The Politics of Revealing Organizational Deception and Abuse."

There are also research materials, project paperwork, correspondence, notes, and a large number of call logs.

Acquisition information:
This collection was donated to Special Collections and University Archives through the Sociology Department in 2022.
Processing information:

The processing, arrangement, and description of the Joyce Rothschild and Terance D. Miethe Whistleblowing Research Papers was completed in February 2023.

Different types of surveys have been organized together and secondary/research materials are in folders by topic/subject.
