Abstract:
This collection includes two letters from the Bassett Furniture Company to Richardson Electric Co. in 1922. The first letter from J. D. Bassett, President, is in regards to a burned out motor, and the second letter from J. C. Hooker, Secretary and Treasurer, is in regards to the installation of a hot air furnace.

Background

Scope and content:

This collection includes two letters from the Bassett Furniture Company to Richardson Electric Co. in 1922. In the first letter, dated April 27, 1922, the Bassett Furniture Company informs Richardson Electric Co. that their motor has burned out again, which will cause inconvience to "a number of people." J. D. Bassett, President, signed this letter. In the second letter, dated October 18, 1922, the Bassett Furniture Company informs Richardson Electric Co. that they accept the "proposition to install a hot air furnace." J. C. Hooker, Secretary and Treasurer, signed this letter.

Biographical / historical:

Bassett Furniture Company was founded in Bassett, Virginia, in 1902, by brothers John David "J.D." Bassett (1866-1965), Samuel Henry Bassett, and Charles Columbus Bassett and their brother-in-law Reed L. Stone. Several additional companies were founded by the family members, and in 1931, they were consolidated as Bassett Furniture Industries.

John David "J.D." Bassett (1866-1965) was a co-founder and president of the Bassett Furniture Company (later Bassett Furniture Industries).
