This collection contains postcards depicting various locations in the Appalachian region. Postcards show scenery from locations in Tennessee and Kentucky as well as Abington, Bristol, Harrisonburg, Radford, Roanoke, and Tazewell, Virginia. Campus quadrangles of Roanoke College are shown on a few postcards. Other postcards depict historic landmarks such as Excelsior Pocahontas Smokeless Coal Mines No 1. and 2, The Hotel Roanoke, Hotel Patrick Henry, The Old Forge of Clifton Forge, and The Barter Theatre.
- Acquisition information:
- Postcards from Appalachia were purchased by Special Collections in 1991. Additional materials were acquired in multiple accruals after 1991.

The processing, arrangement, and description of the Postcards from Appalachia was completed in July 2015. Additional items were added and the collection was organized by location depicted on the front the card in February 2017.

This collection is organized in folders by state depicted on the front of the postcards. Since the majority of the collection relates to Virginia, items relating to Virginia are further subdivided by location and arranged alphabetically by town/city (when given) or county, depending on how the postcard image is identified.
