The collection consists of a 19th century manuscript business ledger from Hickory Fork in Gloucester County, Virginia. Accounts date from January 22, 1841 to May 23, 1842, for a variety of sundries, supplies, and foods for families in the county. Among the regular clients listed are John D. Minor, Carter Coleman, Thomas B. Cooke, P.R. Nelson, John Catlett, Elizabeth Page, and William Taliaferro.

The ledger is signed by John P. Babson. While little more is known about the owner/creator of the business ledger, he was a merchant from Gloucester County, Virginia, who sold supplies to the community.
