The Scott Worner Papers consist of architectural floorplans, photographs, building democraphic surveys, and curriculum guides of secondary schools operating in Virginia as of 1995. All of the 287 schools listed in the collection have building demographic surveys and floorplans, while only 196 have photographs and 27 have curriculum guides. Worner collected this material as part of his research for his dissertation from the College of Education at Virginia Tech. His study resulted in "A Study of the Architecture and Curriculum of Virginia High Schools," his dissertation that was part of earning his Doctorate in Education in Educational Administration.

Scott Worner graduated from James Madison University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1982 and Master of Education degree in 1985. He earned a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from Virginia Tech in May 1995.

The processing, arrangement, and description of the Scott Worner Papers commenced and was completed in 1998 by Brad Shearer, Student Assistant, and Laura Katz Smith, Manuscripts Curator. Additional accruals were processed by Kira A. Dietz, Processing and Acquisitions Archivist in 2009.
