Background
- Scope and content:

This collection consists of a single leaf from a manuscript copy of the Qur'an, the book of Islam. The text, in Arabic, commences with a fragment of verse 16 of Surat-al-Fath, "The Victory" (Sura 48); continues with the the entirety of versus 17-29; and ends with the entirety of verses 1-2 (and a fragment of verse 3) of Surat-al-Hujarat, "The Dwellings" (Sura 49). The leaf is said to date from the late 18th or early 19th century and to have originated possibly from the Kashmir region. According to documentation received with the item, "The calligraphy appears to be Nashki script (in black) with orthographic signs in red. The leaf is embellished with gold leaf." The leaf is accompanied by a typescript translation.
