Background

Scope and content:

The collection consists primarily of materials concerning Felix Sebba's research into the uses of aphrons and other foams from 1979 to 1989. Materials include correspondence, notes on research, and both published and unpublished papers.

Biographical / historical:

Felix Sebba (November 21, 1912-June 14, 1989) was a Professor of Chemical Engineering (1979-1989) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. A native of Cape Town, South Africa, he taught for 22 years at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. Sebba was a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Chemical Society and the discoverer of and expert on aphrons. He authored Foams and Biliquid Foams- Aphrons and was published in a number of scientific journals.

Acquisition information:
The collection was donated to Special Collections in May 1990.
