Background

Scope and content:

The collection contains copies of extensive genealogy of the Surface, or Zerfass, family of Virginia, Indiana, and Ohio. Materials were compiled by Clyde S. Boots of Isabel, Kansas. The collection contains thorough family trees of the family members; cemetery records of Johnson County, Indiana; records of the Price Family of Montgomery County, Virginia, who intermarried with the Surfaces; brief census statistics from 19th century Montgomery County, Virginia; biographies of select members of the family; and copies of the wills (1805 and 1808) of John Surface and John Surface, Jr. Other family names include Bowen, Dressler, Sibold, Price, Lucas, O'Shaughnessy, Odell, Heinigh (Heinagh?), Null, Meairs, Parker, Howard, and Browe.

Acquisition information:
Surface (Zerfass) Family Genealogy was acquired by Special Collections prior to 1970.
Processing information:

The processing, arrangement, and description of the Surface (Zerfass) Family Genealogy was completed prior to 2011. Additional description was completed in March 2011.
