Biographical / historical:

The Virginia Research Investment Committee (VRIC) and Virginia Research Investment Fund (VRIF) were created by the General Assembly in 2016 to foster economic development and job creation through competitive grants that supported innovative and collaborative research, development and commercialization projects and programs by institutions of higher education and the private sector. The State Council of Higher Education in Virginia administered the Virginia Research Investment Fund, which was overseen by the Virginia Research Investment Committee. Both the VRIC and VRIF were repealed by the General Assembly in 2020, and the Virginia Innovative Partnership Authority was created to carry on the mission of these two entities.
