The Pope-Leighey House was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) for Loren Brooks Pope (1910-2008) of Falls Church, Virginia, and built in 1939-1940. Pope sold the house to Robert Leighey (1901-1963) and Marjorie Leighey (1908-1983) in 1946. In 1964, the house was condemned for the construction of Interstate 66. Marjorie Leighey donated the structure to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and it was relocated to the property of Woodlawn Plantation (owned by the National Trust) in 1965 and Leighey resided in the house until her death. The house was shifted 30 feet in 1995. It is owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
