Biographical / historical:

Lancaster County was probably named for the English county. The county was formed sometime between 20 March and 16 September 1651 from Northumberland and York counties. The county court first met on 1 January 1652.

Acquisition information:
Six boxes came to the Library of Virginia in a transfer of court records from Lancaster County under the accession number 41560. One box (1135004) had no accession number.
