Scope and content:

Minutes and related attachments documenting the meetings, activities, discussions, policy decisions, and recommendations of the Virginia Cemetery Board. Includes official board minutes, as well as agendas, draft minutes and other meeting materials. May also include informal fact finding committee minutes.

Electronic records often contain board meeting packets with various attachments and draft minutes, while paper records often include minutes only. There may be some duplication between paper and electronic records.

For transfers prior to 2012, records (starting in 2008) of individual boards were accessioned separately. After this, transfers of records included all boards, which were accessioned under one accession number. There is a separate finding aid for the later transfers with links provided below.

Biographical / historical:

The Cemetery Board was established by law July 1, 1998. The seven member board authorizes the licensure of persons engaged in the "business of a cemetery company" as cited in section 54.1-2311 Code of Virginia. The requirements for licensure became effective in legislation on July 1, 2000.
