Papers, 1880-1944, of the family of Frank Pendleton Goodwin (1852-1916) and Mary Emaline Mitchell Goodwin (1860-1955) of Salem, Virginia. The collection includes accounts and receipts, agreements and contracts, correspondence, insurance policies, loan papers, promissory notes, sympathy cards, notes, and letters, and tax tickets and receipts. There are also business records relating to Goodwin's operation of a funeral home, including accounts and receipts with various companies for undertaker's supplies and for funeral services he provided, as well as burial or removal permits, and death certificates.

This collection also includes estate papers of Albert H. Baldwin (1877-1926) and tax returns, 1937-1944, of his widow, Lela A. Baldwin (1880-1953) of Roanoke.

Biographical / historical:

Frank Pendleton Goodwin was born on 12 May 1852. He was the son of Joseph and Sarah Windel Goodwin. He married Mary Emaline Mitchell (1860-1955). They resided in Salem, Virginia, where he operated a funeral home. Frank P. Goodwin died on 17 October 1916, and is buried in East Hill Cemetery.
