Records related to the Carroll County Public Library, 1911-1987, includes historical and biographical information, photographs, and journals. These records were collected by Alice Lee Cox. Collection includes unofficial histories of the Carroll County Public Library and the Town of Galax Public Library, clippings related to both libraries, and the former's book mobile. Photographs include the book mobile, military hospitals and libraries, and the Carroll County libraries. The journals included are Library Journal, 7 Stories High, Virginia Journal of Education and Wilson Library Bulletin, and miscellaneous leaflets.

Carroll County relied on a book mobile run by its public school system for decades until it funded and built its own public library, completed in the fall of 1982. The Town of Galax administered a mini-library within one of its city offices, until it funded and built a larger, separate facility in the 1970's.
