Sussex County (Va.) Post Office Account Book, 1846, records the accounts of individual customers. Each account lists transactions in chronological order. Information found in each account includes dates of transactions; amount owed for mailing or receiving letters; magazines, and newspapers; location where letters were mailed and received; and form of payment.

Biographical / historical:

Sussex County was named for the English county, and was formed from Surry County by a statute adopted in 1753. The county court first met on 30 May 1754. The county seat is Sussex.
