Scope and content:

Richmond (Va.) Court Records, 1805-1893. The collection contains various documents removed from Richmond court records. The records include a letter from the chancery cause Leach vs. Leach, 1822; a letter pertaining to the court case Brown vs. Chiles and Curtis, 1826; a resolution from the President and Directors of the James River and Kanawha Company, 1841, used as an exhibit in the case James River and Kanawha Company vs. Sims; a letter regarding publication of the sale of Middleton Mills, 1846; a letter regarding suits in which George Potter's Estate is interested, 1849; a letter pertaining to the court case Clopton's Executor vs. Jordan, 1851; a statement from the Hanover County clerk regarding the qualification of Louisa E. Carter as Executor of George Carter, 1884; and a postcard pertaining to the cause Bowles vs. Wiltshire, etc., 1888. Biographical / historical:

Richmond, located between Henrico and Chesterfield Counties, was named by William Byrd II, who envisioned the development of a city at the falls of the James River and with the help of William Mayo laid out the town in 1737. It was incorporated as a city in 1842.

These records was replevined by the Library of Virginia following the trial entitled Commonwealth of Virginia vs. Larry I. Vass heard in Henrico County Circuit Court in November 1972.
