Scope and content:

Nicholas County (W. Va.) Land Grants, 1861-1862. The collection contains two land grants, as follows: to John C. Fowler, 1861 Oct. 1; and to Andrew Foster, 1862 Oct. 1.

Biographical / historical:

Nicholas County (West) Virginia was named for Wilson Cary Nicholas, Virginia governor from 1814 to 1816. It was created in 1818 from sections of Greenbrier, Kanawha, and Randolph Counties. Nicholas County was one of the fifty western Virginia counties to form the state of West Virginia in 1863.

Acquisition information:
The Robert Alonzo Brock Collection was filmed by The Huntington Library in cooperation with The Library of Virginia with funding provided by The Library of Virginia Foundation with the support of The Roller-Bottimore Foundation and The Robins Foundation. Microfilm received 15 April 2004.
