Background

Scope and content:

Tax collector fee book includes entries for taxes due and paid by individuals for land and personal property. Includes a list of tickets returned to W.M. Munford as insolvent, 1801, and several entries at the end of the volume list money to be dealt out to the poor.

Biographical / historical:

Charles City County was an original shire formed in 1634.

Records have been destroyed at various times. The most damage occurred during the Civil War when the records were strewn through the woods in a rainstorm. A few pre-Civil War volumes such as deed books, will books, minute books, and order books exist.
