Scope and content:

Records, 1752-1893 and undated, of Chesterfield County consist of claims against the county and the commonwealth (1752, 1757, 1759, 1761, 1821), court papers related to judgments (1785) and chancery suits (1846, 1849), fiduciary records (1782, 1823, 1828, 1840-1847, 1855), free negro records (1844), wills (undated, 1799, 1820, 1828, 1849), and a petition (1893.)

Copies of inventories and appraisements, 1782, 1855, of the estates of Claiborne Anderson and John Watkins.

Copy of will, inventory, and appraisment, 1820, 1823, of Abram Sublett's estate.

Copies of wills, 1799, undated, of Samuel Nivins and John Burton.

Copies of the will, inventory, and appraisement of Edith Sublett's estate, 1828, as well as copies of depositions and memorandum, 1846, used as exhibits in the chancery cause Sublett versus Sublett heard in the Superior Court of Chancery for the Richmond District.

Copy of will of Caroline M. R. Johnson and notes for answer to bill, 1849, used as exhibits in a chancery cause P. T. Johnson versus Edward Johnson.

Accounts, 1840-1847, related to the estate of Mary McCollum.

Registration of a free negro, 1844, named Isaac Moss.

Petition, 1893, requesting the appointment of John Lester as deputy inspector under the Collector of Internal Revenue.

Chesterfield County was formed in 1749 from Henrico County.
