Ledger, 1876-1884, of Tutwiler and Tayloe, a law partnership. It records the accounts of individual clients. Each account lists transactions in chronological order. Information found in each entry includes date of transaction, legal service rendered, form of payment, and amount owed or paid. Legal services include drawing up legal documents, offering legal advice, and representing clients in court cases. Form of payments include cash, credit, labor, and barter of items such as wood and flour. The ledger includes an index that lists the names of clients in alphabetical order and the page number where their accounts can be found.

Biographical / historical:

Tutwiler and Tayloe was a law partnership in Rockbridge County, Virginia during the late nineteenth century. John McClelland Tutwiler was one of the law partners.
