Scope and content:

This collection contains the correspondence, reports, and research done by Dorothy Holcombe Kabler for Alexandria house histories. The research notes also contain copies of deeds, wills, marriage records, and ther legal material surrounding property ownership.

Biographical / historical:

Dorothy Holcombe Kabler researched house histories at the behest of owners and civic organizations (Old Town Civic Associations) for listing in the Alexandria Tour of Historic Houses. She worked in real estate, a law firm, newspaper advertising, and authored several books including A History of Burke and Herbert's Century of Service to Alexandria and Virginia, 1852-1952, The Story of Gadsby's Tavern, and Alexandria, Port on the Potomac.
