Included are correspondence, legislation, memorandum, minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, presentations, reports, statistics, and surveys. Topics concern automobiles, Chesapeake Bay, dredging, flood protection, Hampton Roads, highways, landfills, nuclear waste, oil spills, Outer Continental Shelf, planned communities, state parks, waste and water treatment plants, and wildlife refuges.

These records contain plats/surveys, certificates of survey and other accompanying papers on which grants were issued through the register of the Land Office between 1779 and 1924, the secretary of the commonwealth between 1925 and 1948, and the state librarian since 1949. Supplemental papers may include warrants, assignments, affidavits, and copies of county court records.

Papers, 1891-1957, of W. W. Scott (1845-1929) of Orange County and Richmond, Virginia, consisting of accounts, advertisements, charts, deeds, envelopes, epitaphs, essays, letters, notes, poems, promissory notes, receipts, reminiscences, satires, and speeches, mainly concerning Virginia and Orange County history, including Scott's HISTORY OF ORANGE COUNTY, VA; and James Madison (1751-1836). Papers also contain correspondence to and from Scott's son Philip H. Scott (1873-1962); receipts for purchases and payments by Scott; copyright for a book by Scott and W. G. Stanard; poems by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Philip Slaughter, Will Henry Thompson, and unknown; an epitaph for Jane Webb in Old Blue Run Church; and the condensed profile for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway in 1908.

Abstract Or Scope

Records, 1803-2001 (bulk 1900-1970) of W. W. LaPrade and Brothers, certified engineers and surveyors in Chesterfield County, Virginia. The company surveyed land mainly in Chesterfield and Henrico Counties and Richmond, Virginia, although many other Virginia counties are also included. The collection consists of computation books, field books and diaries, and plats and surveys prepared by LaPrade for various companies and land owners.
